Football Recap: Tyner Academy's Undefeated Season over After Eight Games

The Tyner Academy Rams came up short against the Nashville Christian Eagles on Friday and fell 49-42. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Eagles are ranked fifth).

Despite the loss, Tyner Academy still got an impressive performance from Jamarion Dowdell, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also picked up 141 receiving yards. Dowdell's longest reception was for an impressive 62 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.

Nashville Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was TJ Ward out in front who rushed for 125 yards and a pair of scores, and also picked up 71 receiving yards. Ward has been hot, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jared Curtis, who threw for 312 yards and four TDs.

Having lost for the first time this season, Tyner Academy fell to 7-1. As for Nashville Christian, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. After each having a week off, Tyner Academy and Brainerd will shake off the rust and duke it out at 1:00 p.m. on the 25th. As for Nashville Christian, they will square off against Columbia Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
