Basketball Recap: Rosewood Takes a Loss

If Rosewood was riding high fresh off their 50-27 takedown of Union last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Rosewood Eagles received a blow on Wednesday as they fell 70-56 to the Hobbton Wildcats. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 44-42.

When it comes to explaining why Rosewood lost, don't look at Hunter Sasser. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 19 to rack up 24 points and three steals. Sasser continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tielen Mccrae, who posted 11 points along with six boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Rosewood was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Hobbton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deonte Darden led the charge by putting up 18 points. Those 18 points gave Darden a new career-high. Nashon Kilkenny was another key player, scoring 12 points.

Rosewood has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Hobbton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.

Rosewood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-44 defeat against Neuse Charter on the 7th. As for Hobbton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 72-52 loss against Lakewood on the 7th.
