Staunton River waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Turner Ashby Knights. This was payback for the Golden Eagles, who suffered an 8-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Payton Evans spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Maxfield, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kailynne Keister, who scored a run and stole two bases.

Staunton River's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Turner Ashby, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Staunton River will take on Lord Botetourt at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Turner Ashby, they will challenge Harrisonburg at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
