Baseball Game Preview: Cibola Cougars vs. Rio Rancho Rams

Cibola is 1-9 against Rio Rancho since June of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Cibola is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Cibola is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Piedra Vista, who was ranked second at the time (Cibola was ranked 24th). The Cougars took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers on Friday. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

Cibola saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Kean, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Rio Rancho had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Hawks. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.

Rio Rancho's win bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Cibola, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

Cibola skirted past Rio Rancho 7-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
