Basketball Recap: Mulberry Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Mulberry extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They were outmatched by the McKeel Academy Wildcats and fell 74-19. The Panthers lost against the Wildcats in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 53-48 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Mulberry saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jeremiah Weary posted 11 points and five boards. Weary continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

As for McKeel Academy, they pushed their record up to 4-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points over those games.

McKeel Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Deion Drone, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Drone is becoming a predictor of the Wildcats' success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Michael Sams III was another key player, going 7-for-10 on his way to 20 points and three steals.

Coming up, Mulberry will venture away from home to square off against Four Corners at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' defense better be ready for this one: the Coyotes have averaged an impressive 58.4 points per game this season. As for McKeel Academy, they will be playing at home against IMG Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
