Basketball Recap: Columbus Piles Up the Points Against Wapello

Columbus hadn't done well against Wapello recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Columbus Wildcats blew past the Wapello Indians 57-23. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Indians are ranked 276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win was the fourth in a row for Columbus, bringing their record for this year to 8-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 23.8 points. As for Wapello, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbus will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Pekin at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. Wapello also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Winfield-Mt. Union at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Wapello is facing Winfield-Mt. Union at the right time seeing as Winfield-Mt. Union is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
