Softball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Now 11-1 over Last 12 Games

Cardinal Gibbons was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Calvary Christian Academy on Friday. The Chiefs put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 10-3 victory. Considering the Chiefs have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Madison Leonard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cardinal Gibbons let Morgan Beavers and Dakota Williams run wild. Beavers got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI, while Williams scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Georgia Jackson, who scored a run and stole two bases.

Cardinal Gibbons always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calvary Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .222.

Cardinal Gibbons has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Calvary Christian Academy, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cardinal Gibbons will welcome Park Vista at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Chaminade-Madonna at 5:30 p.m.
