Basketball Recap: Simon Kenton Drops Season-High Score on Sacred Heart

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Simon Kenton). They snuck past the Sacred Heart Valkyries with a 75-70 victory on Friday. For the Pioneers, this counts as revenge for the 69-46 win the Valkyries walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Sacred Heart lost, don't look at ZaKiyah Johnson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson's evening made it 23 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Morgan Frey, who made all 6 shots she took racking up 15 points and three steals.

Simon Kenton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points over those games. As for Sacred Heart, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 22-3.

Looking ahead, Simon Kenton will take on Highlands at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Simon Kenton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Sacred Heart, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 84-49 victory against Holy Cross on the 15th.
