Football Recap: Cambridge Piles Up the Points Against Franklin

Cambridge won against Arapahoe last Friday with 68 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. The Trojans breezed past the Franklin Flyers to the tune of 68-32. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Trojans also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

Cambridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Krayton Ruggles led the charge by rushing for 166 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Ruggles also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making five total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Micah Gerlach was another key player, rushing for 122 yards and a pair of scores on only 15 carries.

Cambridge didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Franklin to a completion percentage of just 42.1%. The team can thank Ruggles for the heroic effort on defense: he. Cambridge hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.5 or higher in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Cambridge's defensive line didn't let Calvin Carraher., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Myles Stanton, Colton Perks, and Trev Burke, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Franklin's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carraher, who rushed for 99 yards and one TD, and also threw for 95 yards and three touchdowns. Carraher is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another back making a difference was Caiden Peterman, who gained 94 total yards and two touchdowns.

Cambridge's record now sits at 2-0. As for Franklin, they dropped their record down to 1-1 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Cambridge will welcome Axtell at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Franklin, they will head out on the road to take on Hitchcock County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
