Football Recap: Muncie Central Bearcats vs. Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos

Muncie Central dropped to 5-4 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They took a blow against the Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos, falling 55-22. Despite the defeat, Muncie Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mason Ferguson rushed for 84 yards and one score on only seven carries, and also threw for 141 yards and one touchdown. Ferguson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 96-yard run. Muncie Central also got a significant boost from Dae'Cion Echols, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 86 yards.

As for Lafayette Jefferson, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.1 points over those games.

Lafayette Jefferson got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Trysten Barrett out in front who threw for 386 yards and five TDs while completing 79.4% of his passes. Those 386 passing yards gave Barrett a new career-high. Omar Williams Jr also helped out as he racked up 166 receiving yards.

Muncie Central wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 48-21 win against Marion on the 24th. As for Lafayette Jefferson, after each having a week off, they and McCutcheon will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st.
