Baseball Game Preview: Torrance Tartars vs. El Segundo Eagles

The Torrance Tartars will venture away from home to challenge the El Segundo Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Torrance put up the most runs they have all season on Friday. They fell just short of Mira Costa by a score of 15-14. The Tartars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Torrance got a good showing from River Martinez, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Mateo Rickman was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hector Chavez, who scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, El Segundo got the win against Wiseburn- Da Vinci on Friday by a conclusive 18-7.

El Segundo has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Torrance, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.

Torrance suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to El Segundo in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Tartars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
