Basketball Recap: Englewood Comes Up Short

Englewood was the 52-19 winner over Skyview when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Englewood Pirates fell 44-37 to the Skyview Wolverines on Saturday. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Englewood lost, don't look at Jonah Singer. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards. The game was Singer's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Soren Singer, who posted eight points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Skyview's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gabriel Guevara, who had nine points along with five assists and three steals. Those five assists gave Guevara a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenneth Sanchez, who put up 12 points.

Englewood's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Skyview, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Englewood and Aurora Central will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Englewood is facing Aurora Central at the right time seeing as Aurora Central is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Skyview, they will head out on the road to challenge Jefferson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
