Banneker extends road losing streak to three

Recap: Banneker Bulldogs vs. Jackson-Reed Tigers

On Wednesday, the Banneker Bulldogs faced the Jackson-Reed Tigers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Banneker was the victim of a rough 57-32 loss at the hands of Jackson-Reed. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Banneker has suffered yet this season.

Despite the loss, Banneker saw an underclassman step up: Promise Njoku scored 19 points along with four steals and two blocks. Njoku hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Rainelle McNeill, who scored eight points.

Leading Jackson-Reed to victory were Aminyah Muhammed and Noa Gordon. Muhammed scored ten points along with nine rebounds and two blocks, while Gordon scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gordon has scored all season.

Banneker's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-5. As for Jackson-Reed, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Banneker will take on Ballou at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Ballou is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Jackson-Reed, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Woodson at 5:30 p.m. Woodson comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
