Bishop Shanahan took a loss when they played away from home last Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They never let East get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Griff Ceribelli tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over 6.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brett Barber, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Michael Cleary was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Avon Grove earned a 7-4 win over Owen J. Roberts on Thursday.
Avon Grove also got a great performance from Devin Rinker as he tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Logan Nelson was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Nelson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Holdren, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Avon Grove's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Shanahan, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Bishop Shanahan suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Avon Grove in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Bishop Shanahan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
