Desert Mountain and Mountain Pointe are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. Desert Mountain will challenge Mountain Pointe at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Desert Mountain will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
While Desert Mountain's win against Horizon wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Desert Mountain never let Horizon get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted against the Huskies since March 19, 2022.
Horizon's batters probably weren't too happy with Lilly 'Goose' Goodwin, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 18 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Goodwin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Avery Gehrke was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Cyan De Luigi, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Mountain Pointe was a bit more limited in their matchup on Tuesday. They came up short against Desert Mountain, falling 13-1. The Pride haven't had much luck with the Wolves recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Desert Mountain pushed their record up to 12-1-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Mountain Pointe, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7-1.
Mountain Pointe's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Desert Mountain has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Mountain Pointe, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Desert Mountain's sizable advantage in that area, Mountain Pointe will need to find a way to close that gap.
Desert Mountain took their victory against Mountain Pointe in their previous meeting on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Desert Mountain since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
