Softball Game Preview: Woodsboro Eagles vs. Pettus Eagles

Woodsboro will face off against Pettus at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Woodsboro has nine straight victories, Pettus has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Woodsboro's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Port Aransas as they made off with a 10-0 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Sidney Castillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

In other batting news, Kaygen Lewis was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Chayse Wernli was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Pettus was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They came up short against Kenedy, falling 17-1.

Pettus' loss dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Woodsboro, their victory bumped their record up to 27-5.

Everything went Woodsboro's way against Pettus when the teams last played back in March, as Woodsboro made off with a 21-0 win. Does Woodsboro have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pettus turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
