Roosevelt is 0-10 against Woodhaven since May of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The Bears will host the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Roosevelt's victory against Garden City wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bears skirted past the Cougars 5-3. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Roosevelt saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Hurliman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. RJ Pauley was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Roosevelt was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Woodhaven narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Edison Academy 4-3.
Woodhaven also got a great performance from Matt Regan as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Tristan Spencer was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. He also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season.
Roosevelt now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Woodhaven, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Roosevelt has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .478. However, it's not like Woodhaven struggles in that department as they've averaged .476. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
