Baseball Game Preview: Barrington Fillies/Broncos vs. Palatine Pirates

For the second straight game, Barrington will face off against Palatine. The Fillies/Broncos will take on the Pirates at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Barrington's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Palatine's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Barrington took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Palatine. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Will Renshaw tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Caid Heick was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Juilan Ashley-Friedman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Barrington is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Palatine, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-5.
