Recap: Liberty Red Devils vs. Landrum Cardinals
The Liberty Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 70-54 to Landrum. While losing is never fun, Liberty can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while Landrum is ranked 43rd).
Liberty's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Mable, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mable has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kendall Jackson, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Benett Edwards was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with seven rebounds for Landrum. Franklin Davis was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists.
Liberty has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Landrum, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-4.
Liberty will head out on the road to challenge Greer Middle College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greer Middle College knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully Liberty likes a good challenge. As for Landrum, they will be playing at home against Chesnee at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Chesnee is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
