Recap: Stratford Red Devils vs. Notre Dame Catholic Lancers
The Stratford Red Devils fell victim to the Notre Dame Catholic Lancers's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Lancers 40-0. Stratford has struggled against Notre Dame Catholic recently, as their game on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Antwan Davis was his usual excellent self, rushing for 189 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per carry. Damon Hibbert was another key contributor, gaining 101 total yards and two touchdowns.
Stratford has yet to win a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 1-8 record. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Northwest United co-op [Wolcott RVT/Litchfield/Nonnewaug/Shepaug Valley/Wamogo] and 8-1 Newtown (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 76.2% over those games). As for Notre Dame Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Stratford will be playing in front of their home fans against Bunnell at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Bunnell presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Stratford in Connecticut (Bunnell is ranked 26th, while Stratford is ranked 123rd). Notre Dame Catholic will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Pomperaug at 6:30 p.m. on November 21st.
