Basketball Recap: Swallows Charter Academy Spartans vs. Dolores Huerta Prep Scorpions

The Swallows Charter Academy Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They took a 73-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Dolores Huerta Prep. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Swallows Charter Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Andrew Breedlove, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Breedlove has scored all season. Charles Perry was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five assists.

Dolores Huerta Prep was led to victory by Raymond Molina and Artrell Mccullar. Molina dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Mccullar scored 23 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Mccullar is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcos Lerma, who scored 13 points.

Swallows Charter Academy dropped their record down to 2-12 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Dolores Huerta Prep, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-9.

Swallows Charter Academy will head out on the road to face off against the Meloneers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Rocky Ford is ranked 309th, while the Spartans are ranked 294th). As for Dolores Huerta Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Kodiaks at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
