Football Recap: Columbus Comes Up Short

Columbus dropped to 7-3 on Thursday, ending the team's seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Sumter County Panthers 48-3. The Blue Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-3.

As for Sumter County, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 46 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sumter County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ishmael Jones, who threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns on only ten passes. The Panthers' leading receiver Jacques Dice was Jones' top target yet again, picking up 155 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Columbus and Sumter County are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. After each having a week off, the Blue Devils and Hapeville Charter will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:30 p.m. on the 14th. As for Sumter County, they will square off against KIPP Atlanta Collegiate at 7:30 p.m. on the 14th.
