Aaliyah Broadus leads a balanced attack to beat Eaglecrest

Recap: Cherokee Trail Cougars vs. Eaglecrest Raptors

The Cherokee Trail Cougars came tearing into Wednesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 54-44 victory over Eaglecrest. Given Cherokee Trail's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Eaglecrest is ranked 40th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cherokee Trail got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aaliyah Broadus out in front who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Talia Strode, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Eaglecrest's loss came despite strong showings from Shyann Farbes and Jada Bobb. Farbes scored 13 points along with three steals, while Bobb dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Farbes has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Naomi Emecheta was another key contributor, scoring seven points.

Cherokee Trail's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2. As for Eaglecrest, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Arapahoe the next time they take the court. Cherokee Trail will head out to face Arapahoe at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Eaglecrest will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
