Softball Game Preview: John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers vs. Northside Rams

John Carroll Catholic is 0-5 against Northside since March of 2025 but things could change on Thursday. The Cavaliers will venture away from home to square off against the Rams at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

John Carroll Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Wenonah get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cavaliers considering their two-run performance the game before.

Meanwhile, Northside had just enough and edged out American Christian Academy 9-7 on Tuesday.

Baylee Appling made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Appling wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Avery Patton, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another was Reagan Robertson, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Northside lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted in their last 14 matchups.

John Carroll Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Northside, their record now sits at 31-8-1.

John Carroll Catholic suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Northside in their previous meeting on Thursday. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
