Basketball Recap: Northern Valley Takes a Loss

Northern Valley was the 75-38 winner over Western Plains when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Northern Valley Huskies were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 47-46 to the Western Plains Bobcats.

Several Huskies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Haedyn Cox, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Cox has been hot recently, having posted ten or more boards the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Cox, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Northern Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Western Plains' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chloe Briand, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. Madelyn Kraus was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Northern Valley's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Western Plains, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northern Valley and Golden Plains will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Western Plains, they will take on Weskan at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Western Plains has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
