Volleyball Game Preview: Orleans Bulldogs vs. Shoals Jug Rox

Orleans and Shoals are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2020, but not for long. The Bulldogs will square off against the Jug Rox at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Orleans hadn't beaten Borden on the road since October 8, 2015 but that history sure didn't bother them last Thursday. The Bulldogs walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Braves. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Orleans walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the fourth set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14.

Orleans can attribute much of their success to Hayley Hess, who had 15 digs and one assist, and Addison Russell, who had 15 digs, ten kills, and four aces. Russell is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had seven or more in each of the last five games she's played.

They weren't the only good servers: Orleans was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Borden only served eight.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Shoals walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Cougars on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Jug Rox in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.

Orleans' win bumped their record up to 17-10. As for Shoals, their victory bumped their record up to 23-4.

Orleans skirted past Shoals 3-2 in their previous meeting last Tuesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
