The Floresville Tigers/Jaguars will be taking part in a tournament against the Weslaco Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Floresville sitting on three straight victories and Weslaco on seven.
Floresville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Gonzales 15-0 on Saturday. Considering the Tigers/Jaguars have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Layton Latka and Emmett Nettles did most of the damage at the plate: Latka scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Nettles scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Nettles is becoming a predictor of Floresville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Aden Flores, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Floresville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Weslaco posted their closest win since May 11, 2024 on Saturday. They skirted past Laredo LBJ 3-2.
Isaiah Garza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Weslaco's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gael Villareal, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Weslaco's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Floresville, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Floresville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .505. However, it's not like Weslaco struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
