Basketball Recap: Rye Find Success

Rye had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 66-54 win over the Denver Jewish Day Tigers on Friday.

Eli Guzman was a one-man wrecking crew as he shot 5-for-9 from long range and dropped a double-double with 29 points and 17 boards. What's more, he also posted a 56% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Wyatt Scheid was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds.

Rye smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Denver Jewish Day lost, don't look at Solly Bielsky. Despite the final result, he shot 45% from the field on his way to 30 points and six boards. The contest was Bielsky's fifth in a row with at least 25 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ronen Trujillo, who posted 12 points.

Denver Jewish Day now has a losing record of 1-2.

Rye wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 57-45 victory against Bennett on the 6th. As for Denver Jewish Day, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-41 win against Mitchell on the 6th.
