Preview: Trinity Lutheran Cougars vs. South Decatur Cougars
Trinity Lutheran has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the South Decatur Cougars at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Trinity Lutheran posted their biggest victory since December 7, 2023 on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Rising Sun with a sharp 57-37 win.
Trinity Lutheran relied on the efforts of Jordan Brewer, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five steals, and Marley Warren, who scored 17 points along with four steals. Warren has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Liza Froedge was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals and two blocks.
Even though South Decatur has not done well against Edinburgh recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. South Decatur breezed by Edinburgh at home to the tune of 46-19. The victory was familiar territory for South Decatur who now have three in a row.
South Decatur can attribute much of their success to Paige McQueen, who scored ten points along with four steals, and Makalya Somers, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Somers is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Puckett, who scored a point along with five assists and three steals.
Trinity Lutheran is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. As for South Decatur, their victory bumped their record up to 12-9.
Everything came up roses for Trinity Lutheran against South Decatur in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 81-49 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Trinity Lutheran since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
