Basketball Recap: Rockford East Comes Up Short

Rockford East had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 52-51 to the Morgan Park Mustangs. The E-Rabs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

Rockford East's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marquis Goldsmith, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Goldsmith is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Tarion McFadden-Leach was another key player, shooting 42% from the field to rack up 15 points.

Rockford East has already played their next contest, a 68-39 loss against Whitney Young on the 26th. As for Morgan Park, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-35 victory against Hansberry on the 25th.
