Baseball Game Preview: Classical Academy Caimans vs. Mission Hills Grizzlies

Classical Academy hasn't had much luck against Mission Hills recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Classical Academy will square off against Mission Hills at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Classical Academy's tournament run continued when they took on Southwest EC on Saturday. Classical Academy came out on top against Southwest EC by a score of 7-4. The Caimans haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Aidan Suitor and Trevor Hoff did most of the damage at the plate: Suitor scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Hoff scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Justus Smith, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Mission Hills posted their closest victory since May 8, 2024 on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Rancho Buena Vista 3-2. The game was the first time the Grizzlies have beaten the Longhorns on their field since April 8, 2017.

Jaxson Jenkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because Mission Hills is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 0-4 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Micah Mecucci, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season.

Classical Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Mission Hills, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5.
