Softball Recap: Nokomis Takes a Loss

Nokomis extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-17 in the process. They lost 12-6 to the New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly Vipers. The Redskins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vipers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Maddison DeWerff made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those home runs were her first of the season.

As for New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly, their win bumped their record up to 5-18. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

On New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly's side, Addison Hopkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on seven hits. Hopkins has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly got a massive performance out of Autumn Green, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and one double. Green continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Riley Holloway was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nokomis will square off against Meridian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Redskins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. As for New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly, they will face off against Greenfield/Northwestern at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Vipers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
