Basketball Recap: Northside's Run of Seven Straight Victories Now Over

After a string of seven wins, Northside's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a hard 52-36 fall against the Wenonah Dragons. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Dragons are ranked 30th).

Despite the loss, Northside still got an impressive performance from Caroline Jones, who posted nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Bennett, who earned seven points.

Even though they lost, Northside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 20 consecutive matches.

Leading Wenonah to victory were Samarian Franklin and Aariyanah Parker. Franklin went 9 of 17 on her way to 20 points along with eight assists and seven boards, while Parker dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 boards. Franklin has been hot for a while, having posted 18 or more points the last 13 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dahja Tinsley, who had six points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Northside's loss dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Wenonah, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-3.

Northside will challenge John Carroll Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wenonah, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Center Point at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
