Kayla Brewer got the start for Roncalli and what a start it was: she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Brewer has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Morgan Curtis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Elise Baker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.
Roncalli kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Franklin Central made easy work of Indianapolis Lutheran on Monday and carried off a 14-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Flashes in their matchups with the Saints: they've now won three in a row.
Olivia Starr was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Starr was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other pitching news, Kiley Renick looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Audrina Yorn and Olivia Raymann did most of the damage at the plate: Yorn went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Raymann went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits Yorn has posted since back in April. Safiyah Shankle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Roncalli's victory bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Franklin Central, their win bumped their record up to 13-10.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Roncalli hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Franklin Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Roncalli got the 'W' in their previous meeting two weeks ago against Franklin Central by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Royals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Flashes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
