2A Flatirons recap Oct. 16, 2012
Faith Christian extended the longest winning streak in 2A Flatirons this week by beating Bishop Machebeuf, 55-0. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Eagles.
Faith Christian took down the Buffaloes 55-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Rory Gishwiller threw for 76 yards and one touchdown and ran for 50 yards in the win.
Brandyn Thompson was the best wideout in the league this week as Blair Hubbard's team beat Bishop Machebeuf. Thompson racked up one reception for 39 yards. Finch Miles helped Faith Christian's passing attack out by catching one ball for 38 yards.
Henry Southway was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 28 carries, he ran for 204 yards as Middle Park beat Kevin Mcginty's team. Teammate Moses Aguilar added to the ground attack by rushing for 38 yards.
Gunnar Caldwell made the biggest impact on defense this week as Faith Christian bested the Buffaloes. The 6-foot-1 defensive back pulled down one interception and recorded one fumble.
The Pinnacle's Hector Venegas and Chris Genovez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A Flatirons in both passing and receiving yards. Venegas has thrown for 567 yards this season, while Genovez, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 12 catches for 209 yards. The Panthers' Southway leads the league in rushing yards with 940.
Middle Park's Southway is a mere 60 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when The Academy takes on the Eagles. As it stands, the Wildcats are in fourth, while Faith Christian is in second.
Troy Schmidt's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,121 from 6,781. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 30-0 victory over The Academy last week.
