Softball Game Preview: Montini Catholic Broncos vs. Lyons Lions

The Montini Catholic Broncos will face off against the Lyons Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Montini Catholic is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

Montini Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Elliott County with a sharp 18-2 victory on Tuesday. While the Broncos didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Lyons had just enough and edged out Hinsdale South 5-4 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won four in a row.

Lucy Lee looked comfortable as she tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alice Bruckner, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Ava Jacklin was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Lyons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Lyons now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Montini Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
