Football Recap: Salem Sets Scoring Season-High Against Corydon Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Salem). They put the hurt on the Corydon Central Panthers with a sharp 53-33 victory on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their seven-point performance the contest before.

Salem's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Payton Schocke led the charge by rushing for 154 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries. Schocke didn't just play on offense: he also made three total tackles and defended one pass. Another rusher making a difference was Caris Moore, who rushed for 83 yards and three scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Salem was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 440 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Corydon Central lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Bobby Sharp, who rushed for 52 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 167 yards on only 15 passes.

With the win, Salem broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4. As for Corydon Central, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salem will face off against Eastern at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will be up against the Musketeers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.83 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Corydon Central, they will take on Charlestown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
