Football Recap: Coxsackie-Athens Find Success

Coxsackie-Athens took a 48-point defeat the last time they faced off against Watervliet/Heatly, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Riverhawks pulled ahead with a 14-13 photo finish over Watervliet/Heatly on Friday. This was payback for the Riverhawks, who suffered a 48-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Among those leading the charge was Rich Perino, who rushed for 58 yards and one TD. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making two total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Coxsackie-Athens didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Perino, Craig Farrell, and Aiden Bannen picked up one apiece.

Coxsackie-Athens now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Watervliet/Heatly, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 2-1.

Looking ahead, Coxsackie-Athens will look to defend their home field on Friday against Fonda-Fultonville at 7:00 p.m. As for Watervliet/Heatly, they will take on Hoosick Falls/Tamarac on Friday.
