Baseball Game Preview: Duchesne Pioneers vs. Chaminade Red Devils

Duchesne hasn't had much luck against Chaminade recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Pioneers will be playing at home against the Red Devils at 11:00 a.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Duchesne has ten straight victories, Chaminade has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Duchesne proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 18) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Lutheran 7-6.

Gavin Moffitt tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Jackson Nikodym was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landon Rehagen, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Chaminade fell victim to Vianney and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Golden Griffins, falling 13-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Red Devils were not able to get on the board.

Chaminade's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Duchesne, they pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Duchesne suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Chaminade in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
