Preview: Northern Cambria Colts vs. United Lions

Northern Cambria is 2-8 against United since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Northern Cambria Colts will be home for the holidays to greet the United Lions at 7:15 p.m.

Northern Cambria's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by Conemaugh Township 44-12. Northern Cambria was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 25-5.

Meanwhile, United scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They came out on top against Cambria Heights by a score of 57-44. Given United's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while Cambria Heights is ranked 274th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

United's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Delaney Perrone, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Maddison McGinnis was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.

Northern Cambria's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-2. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.2 points per game. As for United, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Northern Cambria took a serious blow against United when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 63-9. Thankfully for Northern Cambria, Aleah Bevard (who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
