Basketball Recap: South Mecklenburg Comes Up Short

South Mecklenburg lost against Greensboro Day School back in November of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Sabres lost 66-44 to the Bengals. The matchup marked the Sabres' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, South Mecklenburg still got an impressive performance from Jim Gatehouse, who went 7-for-17 to rack up 20 points and seven boards. The contest was Gatehouse's fifth in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Ben Houpt, who posted 13 points and three blocks.

South Mecklenburg now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Greensboro Day School, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Mecklenburg will take on Weddington at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sabres will need to watch out since the Warriors have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Greensboro Day School, they will challenge Burlington Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bengals will be up against the Royals' rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
