Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons Takes a Loss

Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 22 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-8 in the process. They lost 9-0 to the Schoharie Storm. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Knights of the 7-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Schoharie, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3. Considering they have won three matchups by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Schoharie's part, Lawrence Zuefle was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. Zuefle has become a key player for the Storm: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-3 otherwise. Kolebyn Scheemaker also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons and Schoharie could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Golden Knights (ranked 461st) will meet Canajoharie (ranked 172nd) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Schoharie will face off against Johnstown at 7:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (206 vs. 100).
