Football Recap: Los Fresnos Starts off Right with Win over Mcallen

Los Fresnos gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They managed a 34-28 win over the McAllen Bulldogs. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Robert Pineda had a dynamite game, rushing for 242 yards and three scores while picking up 10.5 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards. Lucky Perales was another key player, gaining 97 total yards and a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Los Fresnos was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 352 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in ten consecutive games dating back to last season.

Another reason for the win was Los Fresnos' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Juan Sanchez refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Los Fresnos got some further help from Sanchez: he picked up 1.5 sacks, forced two fumbles, and made 12 total tackles (3.5 for loss).

When it comes to explaining why McAllen lost, don't look at McCoy Wolthoff. Despite the final result, he threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 30 yards.

Los Fresnos wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 38-24 win against Rowe on the 5th. As for McAllen, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-10 victory against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial on the 4th.
