Recap: Banneker Bulldogs vs. Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers
It was a good run, but the Banneker Bulldogs unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell to Archbishop Spalding 47-43. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Banneker came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked sixth in District of Columbia, while Archbishop Spalding is ranked 40th in Maryland).
Despite the loss, Banneker still got an impressive performance from Promise Njoku, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds. The match was Njoku's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Malcolm, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Banneker's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Archbishop Spalding, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Banneker and Archbishop Carroll will face off at 5:45 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Archbishop Carroll will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Archbishop Spalding, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Timothy's at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.
