Football Game Preview: Barnstable Red Hawks vs. New Bedford Whalers

The Barnstable Red Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the New Bedford Whalers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Barnstable has five straight wins, New Bedford has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Barnstable is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Massachusetts' top teams: Milford, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Barnstable was ranked 18th). The Red Hawks simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Scarlet Hawks 35-6. Considering the Red Hawks have won three matchups by more than 28 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, New Bedford came up short against Quincy on Friday, falling 33-7.

Barnstable's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for New Bedford, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Barnstable took their win against New Bedford in their previous matchup back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 21-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
