Softball Game Preview: Franklin Cougars vs. Montwood Rams

Franklin is 0-10 against Montwood since March of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Rams at 6:30 p.m. Franklin has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Franklin turned things around against Coronado on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Thunderbirds by a score of 15-12.

Layla Heredia and Ariana Carrera did most of the damage at the plate: Heredia went 4-for-6 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Carrera went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Heredia has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Lauren Betancourt, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Franklin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .617. They are 10-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Eastlake hit Montwood with a four-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rams lost 10-4 to the Falcons.

Isabella Sanchez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Grace Ponzio was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Montwood's defeat dropped their record down to 13-15-1. As for Franklin, their win bumped their record up to 14-15.
