4A Region 7 recap October 1, 2013

Columbia was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 4A Region 7. The Wildcats vanquished Tylertown 19-7 earlier in the week.

Purvis took down Perry Central 48-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Nathan Roseberry threw for 107 yards and ran for 123 yards during the win.

Roseberry provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Tornadoes topped the Bulldogs. Roseberry's key target this week was Markell Pack, who caught 3 passes for 107 yards.

Qauvonte Adams threw for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 13-20 with 3 interceptions.

Adams put up the best numbers through the air as South Pike fell to Sumner. Adams' favorite target this week was Desmond Cook, who caught 4 passes for 53 yards.

6-foot-4 quarterback Alex Woodall of McComb is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,008. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jalen Jackson. The North Pike star has 15 catches for 318 yards.

Next week's game between the Tigers and the Eagles will feature an aerial matchup as Woodall tests his arm against John Jones's defensive ability.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Columbia takes on Purvis. Walter Denton's team is currently in third, while Perry Wheat's team is in first.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Wildcats take on the Tornadoes. Columbia has allowed 103 points this season, while Purvis has given up 79. The Wildcats allowed 7 points last week as they defeated the Chiefs.

The Tornadoes made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,004 from 2,250. The advance stemmed from a 48-12 victory over Perry Central last week.
