Softball Recap: Big Sandy Comes Up Short

Big Sandy extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 8-12. They fell 6-3 to the Fruitvale Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-2 on Tuesday.

As for Fruitvale, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-17. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

For Fruitvale's part, Kyla Bain was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Bain has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Bain wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Xandria Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another was Shelby Dry, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Big Sandy will challenge Word of God Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fruitvale, they will square off against Alba-Golden at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
