Basketball Recap: High Plains Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

High Plains waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They walked away with a 50-41 win over the Nebraska Lutheran Knights. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Storm also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

High Plains' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gahvrielle Lesiak, who posted 11 points along with six steals and five boards. Lesiak is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Peyton Hofmann was another key player, going 6 for 13 on her way to 14 points and five rebounds.

High Plains was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nebraska Lutheran only posted one assist.

Nebraska Lutheran's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Samantha Hueske, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards, and Tenley Williamson, who earned nine points and six rebounds. Hueske has become a key player for Nebraska Lutheran: the team is 5-1 when she posts at least eight boards, but 1-3 otherwise.

High Plains pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Nebraska Lutheran, they moved to 6-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

High Plains will head out to challenge Heartland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. High Plains is facing Heartland at the right time seeing as Heartland is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Nebraska Lutheran has already played their next game (against Shelby-Rising City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
