Softball Recap: Western Reserve Takes a Loss

Western Reserve extended their losing streak to eight on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-10 in the process. They lost 13-2 to the New London Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Roughriders of the 7-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Western Reserve saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eliza Stewart, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

As for New London, their record now sits at 11-5. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

On New London's side, Addison Yetter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Yetter has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Pailee Wilson and Gracie Thomas did most of the damage at the plate: Wilson went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Thomas went 3-for-4 with six RBI and two runs. That's the most hits Thomas has posted since April 4th. Another player making a difference was Paiton Shephard, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

While Western Reserve had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
